What Anchor boosts
Anchor boosts three attribute groups: Pace (PAC), Defending (DEF) and Physical (PHY). It is Shadow's balanced sibling — a little less pace focus, but the extra physicality makes defenders harder to push off the ball. Compare it with the full list in our FC 27 chemistry styles guide before you commit.
How the boost scales with chemistry
The boost is not fixed — it scales with that player's own chemistry points:
| Player chemistry | Anchor boost |
| 0 chemistry | No boost at all |
| 1 chemistry | Small boost |
| 2 chemistry | Medium boost |
| 3 chemistry | Maximum boost |
An Anchor on a 1-chemistry defender is coins wasted. Use our FC 27 chemistry calculator to get the player to 3 chemistry first, then apply the style.
Best positions for Anchor
- Defensive mid (CDM): the natural Anchor slot — CDMs need pace to cover, defending to tackle, and physicality to win duels.
- Centre-back (CB): a CB who is quick enough to skip Shadow but loses shoulder-to-shoulder battles.
- Full-back (LB / RB): attacking full-backs who mix it up physically as well as sprint back.
Rule of thumb: boost what the card lacks. If the defender's only problem is raw pace, Shadow is the cheaper fix — Anchor is for the all-round upgrade.
Example: Anchor on a CDM
Say your CDM has decent pace but gets shrugged off in midfield duels, and he sits on 3 chemistry. Applying Anchor gives him the maximum Pace + Defending + Physical boost, so he covers the same ground while winning more 50/50s. Same card on 1 chemistry? Barely any boost — fix the chemistry first.
Anchor FAQ
When is Anchor the right chemistry style pick in FC 27?
Anchor is the right pick for balanced defenders and CDMs — players who need pace and defending but would also benefit from extra physicality. It is the balanced alternative to Shadow's pure pace fix.
Anchor or Shadow for a defender in FC 27?
Shadow (Pace + Defending) is the pure pace fix for defenders who keep getting burned. Anchor (Pace + Defending + Physical) spreads the boost across three groups, so it suits defenders who are decently quick already but get bullied off the ball.
Does Anchor work on a low-chemistry player in FC 27?
It applies, but the boost scales with the player's own chemistry: 0 chemistry means no boost at all, 1 gives a small boost, 2 a medium boost, and 3 the maximum boost. Get the player to 3 chemistry first — here's why chemistry matters more than the style.
