What Catalyst boosts
Catalyst boosts two attribute groups: Pace (PAC) and Passing (PAS). Nothing else — no Dribbling, no Shooting. That two-stat focus is the point: every point of the style lands on the two things a runner-distributor actually does. Compare it with the full list in our FC 27 chemistry styles guide.
How the boost scales with chemistry
The boost is not fixed — it scales with that player's own chemistry points:
| Player chemistry | Catalyst boost |
| 0 chemistry | No boost at all |
| 1 chemistry | Small boost |
| 2 chemistry | Medium boost |
| 3 chemistry | Maximum boost (about +3 to Pace and Passing) |
A Catalyst on a 1-chemistry player is wasted value. Use our FC 27 chemistry calculator to get the player to 3 chemistry first, then apply the style.
Best positions for Catalyst
- Winger (LW / RW): the pure sprint-and-cross winger — gets down the flank, delivers the ball, never needs to beat three men.
- Attacking full-back (LB / RB): overlaps constantly and needs the legs to get back, plus the crossing to make the run count.
Rule of thumb: if the player's highlight reel is runs and passes — not dribbles — Catalyst is cleaner than any three-stat style.
When NOT to pick Catalyst
vs Engine: if your player actually carries the ball and beats defenders with it, Engine adds Dribbling on top of Pace and Passing — and for a ball-carrier that third stat earns its place.
vs Shadow: for defensive full-backs, Catalyst is the wrong tool entirely. A full-back who stays home and defends should take Shadow (Pace + Defending) — passing range is not his job.
Example: Catalyst on a full-back
Take an overlapping right-back on 3 chemistry: quick enough, but his crossing has been average. Catalyst at 3 chemistry lifts Pace and Passing (about +3 each), so his overlap arrives earlier and the cutback actually finds a striker. Same player on 1 chemistry? The boost is negligible — fix the chemistry first.
Catalyst FAQ
When is Catalyst the right chemistry style pick in FC 27?
Catalyst is the right pick for players who run and pass but don't dribble — sprinting wingers who cross, overlapping full-backs, and pure distributors. No frills, just pace and passing.
Catalyst or Shadow for an attacking full-back in FC 27?
An overlapping full-back who bombs up the wing and crosses uses Catalyst's Pace + Passing. A full-back who stays back and defends should take Shadow instead. Here's why the player's chemistry matters more than the style itself.
Why does Catalyst skip Dribbling in FC 27?
Catalyst's two-stat focus keeps all of its value on Pace and Passing. If your player actually carries the ball and beats players, Engine adds Dribbling and is the better pick.
