Out of Position Chemistry Penalty in FC 27

The heaviest penalty in squad building: a player outside his preferred position gets 0 chemistry — no partial credit — and disappears from his teammates' link counts too.

The rule: 0 chemistry, no partial credit

If a starter is not in one of his preferred positions, his chemistry is 0 — full stop. There is no partial score for being "close" to the right spot, and no amount of club, nation, league or manager links can lift him above 0. The double hit: it hurts teammates too

The penalty goes further than the one player. An out-of-position player is excluded from teammates' club, nation and league tallies — as if he were not in the squad at all for link-counting purposes.

Example. You play a winger at striker, but striker is not one of his preferred positions. He drops to 0 chemistry immediately. Worse: his club, nation and league no longer count toward anyone else's tallies. If two of his club-mates were relying on him to reach the 4-player club threshold, they lose their +2 club bonus as well. One misplaced player can drag three or four teammates below their thresholds at once.

How to avoid the penalty

Check the card first. Always look at a player's preferred position(s) on the card before locking in your XI — never assume a position "should" work.
Never sacrifice a key player. If someone has to play slightly out of place, make it a player whose links you do not depend on — never your star striker or playmaker.
