What Guardian boosts
Guardian boosts two attribute groups: Defending (DEF) and Dribbling (DRI). It is the only defender style with a dribbling group — built for full-backs who carry the ball out of pressure instead of just clearing it. Compare it with the full list in our FC 27 chemistry styles guide before you commit.
How the boost scales with chemistry
The boost is not fixed — it scales with that player's own chemistry points:
| Player chemistry | Guardian boost |
| 0 chemistry | No boost at all |
| 1 chemistry | Small boost |
| 2 chemistry | Medium boost |
| 3 chemistry | Maximum boost (about +3 to Defending and Dribbling) |
A Guardian on a 1-chemistry full-back is coins wasted. Use our FC 27 chemistry calculator to get the player to 3 chemistry first, then apply the style.
Best positions for Guardian
- Full-back (LB / RB): the modern overlapping full-back — dribbles out of the press, then still has the defending to handle the counter the other way.
- Wing-back (LWB / RWB): in a back five the wing-back is an attacker as much as a defender — Guardian's dribbling boost covers the carries his role demands.
Rule of thumb: Guardian is for full-backs who play with the ball. If yours stays home and defends, Shadow's pace + defending is the honest pick.
When NOT to pick Guardian
Guardian's dribbling group is unique among defender styles — and it is wasted on any full-back who doesn't carry the ball:
- vs Shadow — pick Shadow for stay-back full-backs where pure defensive pace matters. If he never crosses halfway, Guardian's dribbling boost is decoration. Shadow's pace + defending covers everything a defensive full-back actually does.
- vs Catalyst — pick Catalyst for attacking full-backs who need pace + passing more than defending. If his attacking value is overlapping runs and crossing, pace and passing matter more than one-v-one defending — that's Catalyst's job, not Guardian's.
Example: Guardian on a wing-back
Your right wing-back bombs forward and beats his man, then gets caught out tracking back. On 3 chemistry, Guardian gives him the maximum Defending + Dribbling boost (about +3 to each group) — cleaner take-ons going forward, tighter tackling coming back. On 1 chemistry, neither group changes enough to notice — fix the chemistry first.
Guardian FAQ
Guardian or Shadow on a full-back in FC 27?
Role decides. A stay-back full-back who defends first gets more from Shadow's pace and defending. Guardian is for the ball-carrying full-back who dribbles out of pressure and joins the attack.
Guardian or Catalyst on an attacking full-back in FC 27?
If his attacking value is overlapping pace and crossing (pace + passing), Catalyst wins. If it's carrying the ball past a press and defending one-v-one, Guardian's dribbling + defending fits — and chemistry matters more than the style anyway.
Does Guardian boost pace in FC 27?
No — Defending and Dribbling only. A slow full-back won't get faster with Guardian; Shadow is the pace fix.
