What Cat boosts
Cat boosts three goalkeeper attribute groups: Reflexes (REF), Speed (SPD), and Positioning (POS). It is the 1v1 toolkit: get to the duel fast, react to the shot, cut the angle on the way out. Note that goalkeeper styles only apply to goalkeepers. Compare it with the full list in our FC 27 chemistry styles guide before you commit.
How the boost scales with chemistry
The boost is not fixed — it scales with that player's own chemistry points (goalkeeper styles scale exactly the same way):
| Player chemistry | Cat boost |
| 0 chemistry | No boost at all |
| 1 chemistry | Small boost |
| 2 chemistry | Medium boost |
| 3 chemistry | Maximum boost (about +3 to Reflexes, Speed, and Positioning) |
A Cat on a 1-chemistry keeper is coins wasted. Use our FC 27 chemistry calculator to get the keeper to 3 chemistry first, then apply the style.
Best positions for Cat
- Goalkeeper (GK) — the aggressive rusher: charges out of his box to smother 1v1s, thrives on through balls played in behind. If your keeper's highlight reel is all last-ditch charges, Cat is his style.
Rule of thumb: Cat assumes your keeper leaves his line on purpose. If he only rushes by accident — because your defence got beaten — you're boosting a habit, not a plan.
When NOT to pick Cat
Cat is the most exciting keeper style and the easiest to pick for the wrong keeper. Two rivals win when rushing isn't the whole job:
- Pick Shield instead — when kicking and distribution are the keeper's job too: Shield keeps the Reflexes and Speed but adds Kicking for keepers who launch attacks. Cat is the purer rusher; Shield is the rusher who also distributes.
- Pick Wall instead — for pure shot-stopping without the rushing: if your keeper's actual job is stopping shots from his line, Wall's Diving + Handling + Kicking beats Cat's rushing toolkit. Don't buy Speed for a keeper who never sprints.
The conviction test is simple: watch your last few games. If your keeper regularly wins 1v1s by charging out, Cat. If he mostly makes saves from his line, you want Wall — no matter how fun Cat sounds.
Example: Cat on a rushing keeper
Say your keeper loves charging out to meet through balls but gets beaten to the duel a step too late, and he sits on 3 chemistry. Applying Cat gives him the maximum Reflexes + Speed + Positioning boost (about +3 to each group): he reaches the 1v1 a fraction earlier, cuts the angle better on the way out, and reacts faster to the shot. Same keeper on 1 chemistry? Barely any boost — fix the chemistry first, because a rusher at low chemistry is just a keeper stranded outside his box.
Cat FAQ
Is Cat worth it if I never rush my keeper in FC 27?
No. Cat's Speed and Reflexes are built for a keeper who charges out to win 1v1s. If your keeper stays home, Wall or Glove gives you shot-stopping boosts you'll actually use.
Cat or Wall for pure shot-stopping in FC 27?
Wall. Cat is the rushing toolkit — Reflexes, Speed, Positioning for 1v1s. Wall's Diving, Handling, and Kicking is the better package for a keeper whose job is stopping shots from his line.
Does Cat actually help in 1v1 situations in FC 27?
That's exactly what it's for: Speed to reach the duel first, Reflexes to react to the shot, and Positioning to cut the angle on the way out. It's the most 1v1-focused keeper style in the game.
